Texas Roadhouse rolls are a delight fresh from the oven, but they often lose their appeal the next day. Determined not to let this delicious bread go to waste, I decided to experiment with different ways to reheat the rolls.
The best way to reheat Texas Roadhouse rolls is in the oven. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and lightly wet the rolls before wrapping them in aluminum foil. Heat the rolls for around 5-8 minutes, opening foil for the last few minutes to crisp the top if desired.
How I Tested Reheating Texas Roadhouse Rolls
I spent my Saturday morning baking some delicious, homemade Texas Roadhouse copycat rolls (here’s the recipe I used). Once they had cooled down, I covered the rolls and left them on the counter overnight. The next day, I tested reheating them in:
- The Oven: Reliable and great for big batches.
- The Stove: Crispy and delicious, this was my favorite method.
- The Microwave: Quick and convenient, but not the best texture.
- An Air Fryer: Perfect if you like crispy outsides.
- A Panini Press Or Toaster: A bonus method!
My goal was to find the reheating method that kept the Texas Roadhouse rolls soft and fluffy on the inside, while restoring a slight crisp on the outside.
Quick Tips For Reheating Texas Roadhouse Rolls
If you think your rolls are too far past saving, don’t throw them away! Break them up into smaller pieces and add them to soup. You can even go a step further and dry the pieces out in the oven to make croutons.
A great way to revive your rolls is to add some extra flavor when you’re reheating them. You can brush them with garlic butter, sprinkle them with sea salt, or dust them with cinnamon before reheating.
Reheating Texas Roadhouse Rolls In The Oven
Time: 5-8 minutes
Rating: 9/10
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Lightly sprinkle the Texas Roadhouse rolls with water to prevent them from drying out.
- Wrap the rolls in aluminum foil.
- Heat in the oven for about 5-8 minutes.
By wrapping the rolls in foil, you create a steamy environment that will rehydrate the bread and get its soft, springy texture back.
If you like a crisper crust, open the foil for the last 2-3 minutes of reheating.
And for an extra touch of flavor and richness, you can brush the rolls will butter before wrapping them in foil. YUM!
Results: The oven brought my Texas Roadhouse rolls back to life brilliantly. They were warm and soft on the inside, and slightly crisp on the edges. The oven is also great because it can handle large batches of rolls at once.
Reheating Texas Roadhouse Rolls On The Stove
Time: 2-3 minutes
Rating: 8/10
- Heat a skillet over medium heat with a small pat of butter.
- Cut the Texas Roadhouse rolls in half and place the cut side down in the melted butter.
- Cover with a lid and heat for 1-1.5 minutes each side.
The key here is to use a moderate heat so the rolls can warm through without burning. Don’t go overboard with the butter, because the bread will soak it all up and can become greasy if you use too much.
Covering the pan traps the moisture. If your bread seems really dry, sprinkle a few drops of water around the outside of the pan before adding the lid to create extra steam.
Results: Reheating Texas Roadhouse rolls on the stove is a quick and effective method. My rolls crust got pretty crispy and the inside was still fluffy. It’s a solid choice if you’re in a hurry and don’t want to heat up the entire oven.
Reheating Texas Roadhouse Rolls In The Microwave
Time: 30-40 seconds
Rating: 7/10
- Wrap the Texas Roadhouse rolls in a damp paper towel.
- Microwave in 15-second intervals, checking after each interval for doneness.
- Remove as soon as the rolls are warm.
The damp paper towel is crucial for keeping the rolls moist. You only need it damp though, not wet. If it’s too wet the bottom of the rolls can get soggy.
Once the rolls are warm enough take them out and aim to eat them before they cool down again. When microwaved bread cools down, it gets even drier than it was before and starts to resemble cardboard.
Results: The microwave did a good job of quickly warming up my Texas Roadhouse rolls, and the bread was super soft. But there was none of the crispiness you get with freshly baked rolls and I found the texture slightly dense. I’d use the microwave again though if I was super hungry, or if my rolls were really hard and needed softening.
Reheating Texas Roadhouse Rolls In An Air Fryer
Time: 3-4 minutes
Rating: 9/10
- Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (180°C).
- Cut the rolls in half and butter the cut half.
- Put the rolls in the air fryer, and sprinkle a small amount of water over the rolls to create steam
- Reheat for 1-2 minutes, checking often to avoid burning.
Air fryers are a very harsh reheating method and will quickly dry out your rolls if you don’t keep an eye on them. That’s why I recommend cutting the rolls in half so they heat all the way through quicker.
And remember not to stack things in the air fryer, so keep the rolls to one layer. This makes sure they reheats efficiently. If your rolls don’t all fit in the air fryer, you can heat them in batches.
Results: The air fryer was surprisingly good at reheating my Texas Roadhouse rolls. I thought it would be too harsh, but the quick heating time meant the inside stayed soft while the outside got a nice crunch. I don’t think it would work to refresh rolls that are already quite stale though because there’s not enough moisture.
Bonus Method: Panini Press Or Toaster
If all your Texas rolls needs are a quick refresh, a panini press or a toaster will do the job. The rolls will only need a few minutes to reheat and you’ll restore the crisp on the outside. These methods won’t work super well if the rolls are already pretty dry though.
How To Store Texas Roadhouse Rolls
To store leftover Texas Roadhouse rolls, let them cool to room temperature and then wrap them in plastic wrap. This will keep the moisture in and protect the rolls from drying out. You can keep the rolls at room temperature for 2-3 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
But be aware that keeping the rolls in the fridge will give the bread a much firmer texture.
If you don’t like using plastic wrap, you can wrap the rolls in a kitchen towel and then place this in an airtight container.
I recommend keeping the rolls whole for storing and not pre-slicing them. You want to minimize the surface area that’s exposed to air, and cutting them in half will increase this, meaning they’ll stale faster.
Can You Freeze Texas Roadhouse Rolls?
Yes, you can freeze Texas Roadhouse rolls, and it’s a great way to extend their shelf life past a few days. Aim to freeze the Texas rolls as soon as possible, to preserve them in their fresh state. If you freeze stale rolls, they’ll still be stale when you defrost them.
How To Freeze Texas Roadhouse Rolls
- Ensure the rolls are completely cooled to room temperature before freezing.
- Place the cooled rolls on a wax-paper lined baking sheet, not touching, and freeze for 1-2 hours.
- Place the semi-frozen rolls into a heavy-duty freezer bag and squeeze out as much air as possible before sealing.
- Place the rolls in the freezer for 3-4 months. They’ll be safe to eat beyond this, but the quality will start to decline.
When you’re ready to enjoy the rolls, thaw them at room temperature for a few hours before reheating.
Flash freezing the rolls first means they won’t stick together in the bag, so you can take out a few at a time instead of having to defrost the whole lot. You can also wrap each roll in plastic wrap before putting it in the freezer bag, this is a good idea if you plan to freeze the rolls for a while because it adds an extra layer of protection.
